Support anti-Sharia Law Protest

Gay & Lesbian Humanists say no to sharia law

Humanists will be joining the London demonstration against sharia courts in Canada on September 8th, part of an international protest against faith-based courts and in support of women's rights, secularism and human dignity. Demonstrations will also be taking place in cities in Canada, Germany, Sweden, Holland and France .

The organisers call upon all concerned individuals and progressive organisations to join them in opposing the Ontario Arbitration Act 1991 which allows religion to interfere in the Canadian judicial system. This Act allows family law disputes to be resolved outside the law courts by arbitrators according to their own religious and cultural beliefs, thus permitting Islamic groups to legalize the suppression of women by implementing the proposed Sharia Court . The protestors call upon Ontario to remove family law from the 1991 Arbitration Act.

The media and all those who value human rights are invited to join British Humanist Association representatives and other human rights protestors on Thursday September 8th from 12 noon 2.00 p m, outside the Canadian High Commission, 38 Grosvenor Street , London (Bond Street Tube).
